Preparing for the Big Trip

Countdown to Departure:  21 days

Hi to all of our family and friends, as well as any interested folks out there in cyber space.  This is the first official blog of Whitney & Daniel Ramsey as we begin our nearest and biggest adventure--South America here we come!  On August 1st we leave on a grand adventure to move  to Peru for the next 4+ months!  We first will fly to Florida for a week, visting Ft. Lauderdale (party like it's Spring Break--err--as long as we can be in bed by 10:00 pm :), Coral Gables, Miami, and Key West, after which we travel to Arequipa, Peru.  There we will attend a Spanish language school while emersing ourselves in Peruvian culture and way of life.

I feel consumed with all the planning details now...how are we going to get money without paying exhorbant bank fees, what will our budget be, do we have all our innoculations, are our personal affairs in order, etc etc.  Being a responsible traveler is a lot of work!  I even signed up with the US Embassey for their Safe Traveler Program yesterday.  Well...at least now I can cross "start blog" off my list.  Ha!

  1. In Peru, folks live day to day... hedonistically in the moment. This will likely be a cultural shock for you. Planning is an American thing that hopefully you will pass along to my people, improving my county. Using a concept from Honorario Delgado, a native from Arequipa, planning can produce "incontinencia en el pensar: como oleadas de ideas que influeyen a la mente con una fuerza inconstrastable" (thought incontinence: waves of ideas flowing into the mind with unmatchable force). This is my way of sharing empathy with your anxiety as you make a colossal and admirable decision to expand yourselves.
