Invitation One and All to Join Us on the Inca Trail Hike

We have booked our 4-day hike on the Inca Trail for November 19, leaving from Cusco and arriving at Machu Pichu on November 22.  If anyone is interested in meeting us to do this hike there are 9 spaces left in our group, so book your tickets now!  The company we are using is called Peru Treks and they come highly recommended.  So far we have 2 friends who will be joining us for this trek (Brooke & Andrea) and possibly 2 more (Jamie & Josh).  We'd love to get more friends to come and do this with us!  Our plan is to arrive in Cusco at least 3 days prior to departure so that we can acclimatize for the elevation (and also tour the city and tour near-by towns).  For the hike Peru Treks supplies tents and all meals ans have porters that carry all equipment.  Also you can hire a personal porter to carry your backpack and sleeping bag if you want (Dan & I will be doing this!).  You can also rent a sleeping bag and any other camping equipment you want from them.  The group size will be 12 - 16 people and everyone can hike at their own pace, meeting up at a campsite each night.  On the 4th day we arrive at Machu Pichu and get a guided tour around the ancient city.  We are opting to stay an extra night in the town Aguas Calientes (closest town to Machu Pichu) to relax after hike and go to their natural hot springs.  We'll be returning by train to Cusco Nov. 23 and will be eating our non-traditional Thanksgiving dinner at a traditional Peruvian restaurant!  Email me ASAP if your interested in joining us and I can send you more info (capricorn747@hotmail.com).  Also I copied some info below).  Plane tickets to Peru from CA are running about $1,200-$1,500 right now.

All children under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult. The parents/guardian are responsible at all times for the safety of the children, and acknowledge & accept the risks involved when going on the Inca trail, which is an adventure activity. The trail is narrow in places, with very steep drops, and no protective hand rails or guards. The parents are responsible for keeping the children close by and safe, and not the guide. The guide and porters are not allowed to carry children.
Trek Options:
1. Personal porters can be hired to help carry your personal items such as clothes, sleeping bag etc. The services of a third of a porter (maximum 6kg or 13lb per person) can be hired for US$45. If you hire the services of a third of a porter we will provide you with a lockable porter bag to safeguard your equipment (you will need to supply the small padlock). However even with this service you will still need to take a daypack to carry your essential items such as rain poncho, warm fleece, camera and water bottle. Please note that due to new government regulations the maximum number of porters that we can use in each group has now been capped. This is why we have had to limit the maximum amount of personal equipment that you can give to a porter to carry for you to 6kg or 13lb per person. The maximum amount that each porter can carry on the Inca Trail has also been limited to 18kg or 40lb per porter. Approximately 30% of our clients hire the services of an extra third porter. You must advise us before or when paying the trek deposit if you wish to hire a personal third of a porter, as this cannot be added at later date.
2. An extra night in Aguas Calientes can easily be arranged independently, by yourself. Hotels costs and costs associated with returning to Machu Picchu the following day are additional to trek costs. Please note that if you spend an extra night in Aguas Calientes we will purchase your train tickets to return to Ollantaytambo the following day, but you must advise us before or when paying the trek deposit. (We are unable to change the date of the train tickets at a later date). Obviously we won't be able to send a bus especially to collect you from Ollantaytambo so we will refund you the US$5 in the office, so you can catch one of the many buses waiting for the train to take you back to Cusco. For more information see our web page www.perutreks.com/inca_trail_04d_faq.html
3. We can also provide vegetarian meals or cater for special diets at no extra cost, but we need to know when you make the trek reservation.
4. You can hire sleeping bags in our office. All sleeping bags are synthetic (easy to wash). They are washed after every use and are guaranteed to be clean. After we have hired out our standard sleeping bags just 15 times we donate it to a porter to use. We have now issued sleeping bags free of charge to all of our porters (over a 250 in total) although they are constantly being replaced as they become old and worn out. Cost: US$20 per person for the 4 day trek. Weight 2.5 kg and are rated to 12 degrees below freezing (nice and warm even during the coldest of nights experienced on the Inca Trail.
